Ma mère nous a envoyé un lien vers une vidéo au sujet des automates Jaquet-Droz. On l'a regardé avec les filles, puis j'ai découvert qu'ils 'habitent' pas loin de chez nous. Un dimanche on s'est donc rendu au Musée d'Art et d'Histoire de Neuchâtel pour voir ces merveilles.
Mum sent us a link to a video about the Jaquet-Droz automaton. I watched it with the girls, and subsequently discovered that they 'live' not far from us. So one Sunday we set off to the Musée d'Art et d'Histoire of Neuchâtel to see them.
En attendant la démonstration, on a regardé le reste de l'exposition.
While we were waiting for the demonstration, we visited other bits of the museum.
Il y a trois automates: l'écrivain, le dessinateur, et la musicienne.
There are three automata: the writer, the draughtsman and the musician.
Sur les vidéos on ne rend pas compte à quel point le mécanisme et compacte: il y a 6000 pièces dans l'écrivain.
On the videos, I didn't get a feeling for the scale: they really are very small, there are 6000 parts to this one.
On a pu garder des dessins. Imaginez, des dessins faits de nos jours, par un automates d'il y a 240 ans!
We even got to keep the drawings. Just imagine: I have a drawing done by a 240-year-old automaton!
