Cantata 54

This is my latest musical crush.

If you're going to watch/listen, I really encourage you to do it 'mindfully' (i.e. not at the same time as 10 other things).

I think it's beautiful, heart-rending and mysterious.

Once you've watched that version, you might like this one (has more distracting facial expressions!).

I actually discovered this piece in the context of a video by Glenn Gould. And I discovered Glenn Gould whilst looking up Keith Jarrett and his unbearable (to me) caterwauling (great piano though). Gould did the same thing, but rather more tunefully, and his sound engineers went out of their way to hide it!

My brain always did tend to follow along chains of association from topic to topic. The internet was made for my brain!

Anyway, from there (still by association) we can move on to Hélène Grimaud, another classical pianist. She also 'vocalises' a bit, though a lot less. What's interesting about her - apart from her sometimes original interpretations - is that her 'other' hobby is wolves. Pity the insurer who has to work out how much to insure her hands for!

Oh, and apparently, like Gould, she is so talented that she can practise pieces just by looking at the music (without a piano).

Ecclesiastes

Sunday's summary of Ecclesiastes in eight words: Fear God and find joy in every fleeting moment.

No cares ... Aucun souci

"The utopias of the past saw Man as happy carefree beings. What if being freed from the cares of the world in fact turns everyone into bored, narcissistic psychopaths?"

- Some guy on the internet (not me)
