Ballenberg 5

Bored yet? I'm not :)

This was the oldest chalet, where they had tried to retro-restore it to something like the layout it would have been when it was first built (something like the the 14th century?!). The windows would have been the strict minimum size, to keep the heat in. Apparently, before glass windows, they used stretched pigs bladders!

Here they have peeled away the 'strata' of wallpaper, right back into the 1800s.

Photo just because it's beautiful. We were so fortunate to have two glorious days, in the middle of October!

I have two daughters who generally moan at the suggestion that we should go anywhere on foot as opposed to in the car. But we walked and walked, here and the previous two days, with not a peep.

Did I mention that Ballenberg is amazing? :)

This was a very interesting chalet where they had asked an architect to show what could be done: installing all the latest mod cons and insulation in an old chalet, while respecting its original character, in an aesthetic way. Stunning, and you can walk around and touch everything.
