Biscuits

Ici en Suisse il y a une sympathique tradition de confection de biscuits de Noël. On achète la pâte déjà faite au magasin, et il ne reste plus qu'à l'étaler, découper, enfourner et décorer.

Ces dernières années nous y avons ajouté notre propre touche en faisant une 'tournée du Père Noël' où nous amenons des paquets de biscuits à nos amis âgés.

Cette année nous en avons visité un qui est rentré récemment en maison de retraite. C'était un peu triste parce qu'il s'est convaincu que j'étais venu pour le ramener à la maison.

I'm not sure if there's an equivalent traditional family Christmas preparation activity in the UK, but here in Swissland, making Christmas biscuits/cookies is a thing.

Nearly everyone buys the dough ready made, following which you just need to roll it out, cut out the shapes, bake and decorate.

Over the last few years we've layered our own tradition over this one: we do a 'Father Christmas' day where we visit elderly friends to deliver a pack of biscuits and spread some Christmas cheer*.

(* visited one friend in a nursing home who - I didn't know this prior to visiting - is apparently becoming a bit 'fuzzy': it was quite sad because he was convinced that I had come to take him home)
