Hong Kong Day 2

Deuxième jour, on a commencé en douceur (en fait, chaque jour on a commencé en douceur!), ici une vue de la plage depuis l'appartement où on logeait.

Second day, lazy start (in fact, I think it was a lazy start every day!), here's a view of the mini beach from the apartment we were staying in.

J'ai trouvé drôle de voir ces 'Optimistes' - comme on voit chez nous - sauf avec des énormes bateaux au fond.

Ben est venu à nouveau nous chercher, et nous sommes partis pour découvrir Kowloon. J'étais frappé de voir combien certains bâtiments étaient fins. Très hauts, mais avec à peine la superficie d'une pièce par étage.

Ben came to get us again, and we were off to visit Kowloon, I was really struck by the narrowness of some of the buildings: multiple stories but only about one room's worth of surface area.

Kowloon signifie 9 dragons, parce qu'il y a 9 collines au tour, et selon la mythologie chinoise, chaque colline a son dragon. Ces dragons doivent descendre boire dans l'océan tous les jours, et ce n'est pas de la rigolade, regardez jusqu'à où ils vont pour leur laisser le chemin libre!

Kowloon means 9 dragons, because there are 9 hills, and according to Chinese mythology, each hill has a dragon. These dragons are said to come down from their hill top to drink in the sea every night. And they take this stuff seriously: look up Hong Kong dragon hole!

Le projet de Pauline était de nous faire découvrir le dim sum - qui est une sorte de tapas style Hong Kong. Elle a été pour nous guide touristique, guide culinaire et traductrice!

This time we were going to discover a new Hong Kong speciality - dim sum - which is sort of Hong Kong tapas. Pauline was our guide and translator (cultural as much as linguistic!).

Voilà un modèle de la citadelle de Kowloon, qui a maintenant était démolie et il y un parc à la place.

Par la suite - assommés par le chaud - nous nous somes réfugiés chez Ben & Pauline où les enfants ont profité de jouer ensemble.

We headed off to spend a while at Ben & Pauline's place, and the kids had a great time playing with the Nintendo Switch.

Puis c'était reparti pour un autre restaurant! Cette fois-ci pour déguster encore des spécialités.

Then we were off out to another restaurant - this time to try some Peking duck (along with hundreds of other delicious specialities).

Pour le retour nous prenions le ferry pour traverser la baie, on a vu ce jonque, avec un bateau moderne derrière.

Just before catching the ferry back across the harbour, I got a photo of this junk, with the modern boat behind it.
