On a fait un sympathique tour en vélo avec d'autres cousins et second cousins, sur le trajet d'un ancien chemin de fer.

We went on a lovely bike ride with several cousins and second cousins, along an old railway.

Toujours plus en retard, mais voilà la suite des photos de vacances, toujours à la 'cousinade' au nord du Devon.

We must have been near some airbase, this was a whole flight of helicopters. The sound was rather more impressive than this disappointing photo.

J'a pris le petit déjeuner à l'anglaise. J'avoue que j'ai perdu l'habitude du boudin!

Full English for me (though I must admit I've got out of the habit of black pudding).

Ensuite on s'est arrêté à Rora: un lieu mythique de mon enfance où j'ai fait mes premiers camps, et vécu mon premier rejet en amour (bon, j'avais 10 ans, elle aussi, elle avait peut-être raison!).

I took a detour on our way to North Devon. First stop Rora House, where I have many memories from... a long time ago. This is where I was first turned down by a girl. Given that I was ten at the time, and she was too, I guess she probably had a point.

Ensuite Danes Road, Exeter, où j'ai vécu une année d'uni, avec on ami Pierrick, et deux filles dont je ne me rappelle plus les noms (honte à moi!).

Next stop Danes Road, Exeter, where I lived for a year with Pierrick, and two young ladies whose names I can't remember (sorry!). Still got a mug they gave me for my birthday.

J'ai passé ma première année d'uni ici. J'ai partagé une chambre avec Stefan, un chic type qui était premier de sa famille à aller à l'université. Il est devenu biologiste marine. Il m'a fait découvrir Led Zeppelin, et je lui ai fait découvrir Rachmaninov !

Then Marden Hall, where I stayed in my first year. My room was top left, at the far end. I shared with Stefan Bolam, who was the first person in his family to go to uni. Ended up becoming a Marine Biologist. He introduced me to Led Zeppelin, I introduced him to Rachmaninof !

Ensuite on est arrivé à Beaconside, pour le cousinade. Ici Kalia avec son grandpère.

Ferry

Dans une vie antérieure j'étais un utilisateur très fréquent de Brittany Ferries, mais ça faisait bien une vingtaine d'années que j'avais plus navigué avec eux. Alors ça faisait tout drôle d'y aller avec mes filles pour qui c'était une première !

In a past life, I was a frequent sailor with Brittany ferries, but that is going back a long time (more than 20 years!). So it was quite strange to be travelling with my girls, for whom it was the first time.

Dans le temps je prenais le bateau de nuit, et je dormais par terre. J'ai le souvenir d'une traversée où j'ai très mal dormi, derrière un distributeur de boisson avec son systme de refroidissement qui se rallumait tous les quarts d'heure.

Puisque maintenant je suis un peu plus riche on a pris une cabine - même de jour - et on a profité de faire la sieste!

Back in the day, I used to sail at night and kip down on the floor. I remember one time only finding space next to a drinks machine, with its refrigerating unit which kept turning on and off.

Now I'm a bit richer, I paid for a cabin, even if it was the day time. We even fitted a nap in!

Arrivés à Plymouth, on a eu droit à une chambre d'hôtel nettement plus chic que ce que je m'attendais de la pub.

When we got to Plymouth, we stayed in a hotel (Future Inn) which was a lot nicer than I expected.
