Montpellier zoo

Montpellier zoo is amazing. Owned and run by the city, so most of it is free (except for the indoor bit which you have to pay for.

There were lots of amazing animals to look at, and as usual, we stayed right up to closing time.

Une fille heureuse.
Portrait of happy girl.

Et une autre.
And another happy girl.

Sorry, this photo is vaguely 'not safe for work', but this is NOT something you get to see every day! Even the zoo keepers all stopped in their tracks and whipped out their smartphones to take pictures.

Work

As well as maths work, the girls also had other 'work': like catching up on their 'diaries'.

And various crafty things that they'd been given.

Green bottles ... Musique

Rebecca experimenting with making music. She ended up with a whole 'octave' (non-alcoholic beer, I hasten to add!).

What kind of God? ... Quel Dieu?

Religion #1:

La suite ici (in English).

Religion #1:
God is mean, angry and easily provoked. From day 1, we’ve all been a disappointment, and God is–justly–planning to punish us forever. At the last minute, thanks to Jesus stepping in to calm him down, he decides to be gracious.

But don’t do anything to mess that up. Peace is fragile around here.

Religion #2:
God is gracious, loving, kind, generous and open-hearted. He rejoices in us as his creations, and is grieved that our sins have made us his enemies and caused so much brokenness and pain. In Jesus, he shows us what kind of God he is and restores the joy that should belong to the children of such a Father. True to his promises, he will bless all people in Jesus, and restore the world by his resurrection victory.

You can’t do anything to mess this up. God’s got his heart set on a universe wide celebration.

The rest here.

Water ... Eau

Lots of playing in the water, Kalia in her pyjamas for some reason.

"there are lots of girls besides, I should like to be beside..."

Food ... Nourriture

The first week we didn't do much else than eat, sleep, swim and go shopping for more food. And read comic books.

We needed a holiday.

Back?! ...

So sorry, so sorry. Not sure why, but big hiatus between holidays, then getting back from holidays and still feeling like holidays, then having to catch up with all the skiving. And computer problems, then internet problems, and new phone problems (don't get me started!).

So, where was I?

Yes, we went on holiday. Three of us did anyway.
And that meant we had to share out some of the work differently. Kalia was happy to be chief hanger-out-of-washing.

With a sadistic homeschooling father, there was a different kind of work to do.

For money though, so it wasn't too bad. Though interesting to observe that money motivates some more than others!

Euro & Brexit

Promis, des photos de vacances viendront bientôt!
Joseph Stiglitz on the Euro:
The euro was flawed at birth. Even the best policymakers the world has ever seen could not have made it work. The eurozone’s structure imposed the kind of rigidity associated with the gold standard. The single currency took away its members’ most important mechanism for adjustment – the exchange rate – and the eurozone circumscribed monetary and fiscal policy.
Another Guardian article on Brexit:
But in other respects, Brexit has been a help. It has forced the government to take a long, hard look at the British economy – something that would not have happened without the shock administered by the referendum. It’s brought home the fact that most of Britain feels disconnected from the economic story peddled by successive governments..
Guardian dissing Euro and talking up Brexit, who'd a thunk it?

Back ...

Been back a week actually, but not fully functional again yet.
(I attempted to set up my smart phone to be more dumb for the holidays, and somehow managed to get in a state where I can't activate emails on it anymore!).

Given that this time we were just three on holiday, the housework had to be shared out differently. We discovered that Kalia loves hanging out the washing. One less thing to fight over.

On holiday, they get paid for doing maths, it was a bit too hard for Rebecca to start with, but she got the hang of it very quickly, and made out like a bandit.
