Getting good ... Vraiment pas mal

Rebecca a décidé de se mettre au monocycle (qu'on a trouvé à la déchétterie !). Déjà au bout d'un mois, elle maîtrise pas mal.

Rebecca decided to learn to ride a unicycle (which we found at the tip !). After about a month, she was already pretty good (this video).

Dernièrement j'ai découvert l'histoire tragique de David Reimer. Suite à une circoncision râtée, on a cherché à le transformer de "il" à "elle" dès son plus jeune âge. (Lire ici).

Evidemment ce n'est pas directement la même chose que nos débats actuels sur la théorie du genre et le transgenre. Ce pauvre garçon n'était pas partie prenant de la décision. Mais à mon sens ça démontre que l'idée que "le genre n'est qu'une construction sociétale" est fondamentalement faux.

Et pour moi, ça parle aussi de notre rapport à la réalite.

En discutant avec un ami hier, j'ai pensé à une analogie avec l'anorexie. Si votre enfant dit "je me sens gros", et qu'il croit vraiment qu'il est gros, vous ne dites pas "Oh oui chéri, vas-y, meure de faim". Vous cherchez de l'aide parce que les sentiments de votre enfant ne correspondent manifestement plus à la réalité.

Recently I discovered, rather belated the terribly tragic story of David Reimer. Following a circumcision which went wrong, he was reassigned at a very young age to she. It didn't end well. (Read here and here).

Obviously, this is not exactly the same thing as the current childhood gender debate, as he wasn't a willing party to the decision. But it does illustrate, I believe, that the "gender is just a societal construct" argument is fundamentally flawed.

And for me, this whole thing speaks to our relationship to reality.

Discussing this with a friend yesterday, I thought of the analogy with anorexia. If your child says "I feel fat", and really, really believes they're fat., you don't say "Oh yes darling, you just go on and starve yourself". You get help because your child's feelings are patently not aligned with reality.

Dans la région tout le monde sait ce que signifie FEVI - c'est l'abbréviation pour la prochaine édition de La Fête des Vignerons. Nous quatre serons figurants cette fois-ci (c'est tous les 20 ans, alors il faut profiter).

On a visité le Sensorium avec Kalia et son parrain et marraine.

Pingu

On a été visiter l'exposition sur le 'stop motion' à Lausanne - et le truc le plus intéressant pour moi était de voir des maquettes d'origine de Pingu.

Not sure this cultural reference is known elsewhere - but Pingu is a top quality Swiss invention - and we got to see these original models in a museum in Lausanne.
