Accidents

Grossen katastrophen !

Disaster strikes !

Two weeks ago, I arrrived back from work to find Kalia in pieces. Madame informed me that she'd done something 'bad'.

And it was pretty bad. I guess she'd climbed up on the low table and grabbed hold of the shelf to lift herself up to see something. Kerwallup and they all fell down. Fortunately the TV prevented the stereo from falling any further. And amazingly, it still works (good advert for Philips).

What struck me the most was Kalia's most abject repentance. I don't know what it was that had her so 'undone' - I don't think she was worried about punishment, as she came to 'confess' of her own accord. In any case it was remarkable, difficult to reassure her, I had to hold her in my arms for a good while before she calmed down and stopped crying*.

What bothers me the most is the monster holes left in the wall.

Around the same time, Madame got hit (in the car) by a lorry. Fortunately it wasn't far from work, so I could go and do the paperwork while she comforted Rebecca.

Knackered the rear bumper, one of the light units, and a little dent in the back door. All fixed by the other guy's insurance.

(*Please don't go thinking she's a perfect child though; yesterday I found her on her back under the dining room table 'colouring in' the underside of the chairs...)

Naaah! - Monster Holes - no problem. Bit of filler, smooth with knife, paint later, re-drill later with longer drill, plug and screw. Return to the gung-ho-ness of your youth! (Try translating that). Remember 12 ft steel lintels and monster velux holes in the roof of 157D Wokingham Road!

That's pretty much what I've done - except with the added idea (from someone else) of cutting the wallpaper out first, and gluing it back on afterwards, it's come out pretty well. Drilling deeper will be difficult, because you hit stone if you go much further. I think I'll just shift up a few inches.
