Futuroscope

Notre visite au Futuroscope a mal commencé, puisque Madame a dû partir avant l'aube du premier jour pour rejoindre sa fraterie en Italie du Sud pour gérer l'enterrement de son père.

Nous autres sommes restés sur place - avec la voiture ça aurait été trop compliqué.

Our visit to the Futuroscope started off badly, as I stuck Madame on a train to Paris at 6 o'clock on the first morning, from where she flew to the South of Italy to organise her father's funeral with her brothers and sisters.

The rest of us stayed put - going all the way there with the car would have been a nightmare.

Ca faisait des années - des décennies - que j'entendais parler du Futuroscope. Mais depuis chez nous ça se prête pas tellement. Alors du fait qu'on allait du Sud de la France vers le Devon, c'était le 'moment ou jamais' pour aller jeter un coup d'oeil.

I'd been hearing about the Futuroscope for years - decades - event, but it's not particularly accessible from where we live. So this time, as we were on our way from the South of France to Devon, was as good at time as any.

J'ai pris l'option du "Hôtel Futuroscope" - tout près du parc, on peut s'y rendre à pied, et même revenir entre deux pour faire la sieste!

I opted for us to stay in the Hotel Futuroscope, which was pretty good for a 1 star place. The main reason for staying there was that it is walking distance to the park, so close that you can even pop back for an afternoon nap!

A part l'architecture, qui est très intéressant, et les 'attractions' (qui sont pas mal basés sur "film 3d et siège qui bouge"), il y a des manèges et petits trèsors cachés, comme ce simulateur de différents niveaux de tempête.

Aside from the fascinating architecture, and the 'attractions' (lots of which are '3d films with shaky chairs'), there are kids rides and hidden treasures - like this storm wind simulator with different levels of blowiness.

Cette 'roue' monte gentiment en haut du tour, pendant qu'une voix enregistrée raconte l'historique du Futuroscope.

This gondoleer-thingy turns slowly as it rises to the top of the tower, while the commentary tells you about the story of the place.

Les 'Fat boys' un peu partout sont très appréciables.

The big bean-bags spread around the grounds are a nice touch.

Le Sud

Un plat qui a bien plu: cassoulet avec poivrons, courgettes et oignons frits.

Another holiday winner: cassoulet with fried pepper, courgette and onion.

On a été au village regarder un abrivado (ou bandido, je ne sais jamais). Des cavaliers essaient de guider des vaches (toros) d'un bout à l'autre du village pendant que la jeunesse essaie de 'libérer' les vaches.

We went to watch a traditional 'thingy' in the village, where cowboys try to coral cows from one end of the village to the other, while the youths try to 'free' the cows.

Il y a quelques vaches là-dedans.

There's a cow or two in there somewhere.

En attendant Rebecca s'amuse à faire le singe sur les barrières de sécurité.

There are security fences everywhere to hide behind, just in case.

Manger dehors avec des amis. C'est ça les vacance!

Holiday ... Vacances

Encore de la lecture, avec des chips.

Reading outside, with a packet of crisps. Sounds like a plan!

On a visité Les Petits Fermiers, où les chèvres sont les stars.

We went to visit Les Petits Fermiers, where the girls spent most of their time in the goat enclosure.

Rebecca a fait un tour en poney, avec moi à côté et mon joli chapeau de cowboy!

Kalia a eu le privilège de remarquer qu'une chèvre était sur le point de mettre bas, et d'assister du début à la fin. Elle était très émue.

Kalia was very proud to have noticed a mummy-goat about to give birth, and she watched the whole process.

Rebeca aussi a profité de faire des câlins.

Au bout de quelques jours, Rebecca s'est ennuyé et a demandé du travail !

Rebecca actually got bored enough to ask me to buy her some work to do!
