Le pasteur ne sera probablement pas très dynamique. Il ne va pas avoir un compte Twitter plein de citations lapidaires sur la grâce radicale. Il ne sera pas le meilleur prédicateur depuis George Whitfield. Il ne va pas avoir un entraîneur personnel et ressembler à quelqu'un qui vient de faire une tournée avec un groupe de rock. Il ne va pas avoir un contrat avec une maison d'édition et disparaître pendant des mois pour aller faire la promotion de son dernier livre. Mais il aura été appelé et consacré pour enseigner la parole fidèlement et il aura fait des vœux solennels de respecter son rôle et de respecter cet appel. Il aura des années de formation théologique et pastorale. Il sera soumis à une autorité, et s'il commence à briser ses vœux, vous ne serez pas seul. Il saura votre nom. Il baptisera et instruira vos enfants dans les fondements de la foi chrétienne. Il vous visitera lorsque vous êtes trop malade pour venir à l'autel. Il entendra votre confession des péchés et vous donner l'absolution. Il saura comment appliquer la loi et l'Evangile dans votre vie et non à quelque publiques abstrait sur le web.

The minister will probably not be very dynamic. He won’t have a Twitter feed full of pithy quotes about radical grace. He won’t be the best preacher since George Whitfield. He won’t have a personal trainer and look like his last gig was touring with the Jonas Brothers. He won’t have a book deal and vanish for months to go on speaking tours. But he will have been called and ordered to teach the word faithfully and he will have taken solemn vows to keep these orders and respect this call. He will have years of theological and pastoral training. He will have oversight so if he begins to break his vows, you will not be alone. He will know your name. He will baptize and instruct your children in the essentials of the Christian faith. He will visit you when you are too sick to come to the altar. He will hear your confession of sin and give you absolution. He will know how to apply the Law and Gospel to your life and not to some abstract audience on the web.
