"Both unquestioning acceptance and dogma-free religion are wrong for the same reason: they destroy that which they set out to defend. The doctrinal universalist who holds that all beliefs are equally valid eventually ends having no beliefs at all. But the obedient and unquestioning audience of the magisterium ends up in the same place, for none of his beliefs are truly his."
