Germany ... Allemagne

For Easter weekend we drove the 400 miles to Leverkusen near Cologne to visit the in-laws. I thought the town centre was reminisccent of the beauty of Reading. Mum said it's more like Woodley. Can't say either brought back particularly warm or fuzzy aesthetic memories!

Cologne was a different kettle of fish, though we didn't visit much of it, the cathedral is... big.

I'd not swotted up beforehand, so only learnt after the event that it was started in the 1200s, then they stopped working on it in the 1400s (not sure why), only to finish it in the 1800s, which may explain why the angels around this tower look decidely non-medieval.

Even in these cynical times there is no shortage of loving couples with money to waste, by the look of things!

The girls weren't too keen to leave the wonder of a flat with a telly in each room to go out 'visiting', but with a stick and a rainbow, things perked up a bit.

One of the clean bits.

J'aime les vitraux.
A beautiful stained glass window.
