Walking ... Marche

Ca fait des années que je parle d'aller marcher en montagne avec les filles. Samedi j'ai enfin réussi la mise en pratique. Vendredi soir j'ai annoncé le programme du lendemain (plutôt que demander leur avis), après le choc initial, elles se sont faites à l'idée. Pour aider avec la motivation, j'ai embarqué quelques amis aussi.

On n'est pas arrivé tout à fait en haut, mais tout le monde était d'accord qu'on y arrivera la prochaine fois... donc, mission accomplie!

After years of talking about it, Saturday I finally got round to going up a mountain with the girls. A bit sneakily announcing that it was going to happen rather than asking their opinion. After the first minutes of shock they can round to the idea, especially as I roped in a few of their friends.

We didn't quite make it to the top, but a nice time was had by all, and they are up for trying another time, so... Mission accomplished!

IAF

L'IAF c'est le Internationale Austellung Fahrwegstecnik (ou un truc comme ça). C'est une grande exposition ferroviaire qui a lieu tous les quatre ans. Je devais y aller la dernière fois, mais il y a eu un truc. Cette fois-ci je n'étais pas censé y aller non plus, mais j'ai dû remplacer un collègue qui a démissioné.

IAF is the Internationale Austellung Fahrwegstecnik (or something like that). It takes place every four years in Münster. I was supposed to go four years ago but something happened. As it happens this time I wasn't going to go, but a colleague resigned, so it fell to me to take his place. The temperature was sweltering when we got there on the Monday.

C'était chaud en arrivant, on se serait cru sur la Côté d'Azur. A dix heures du soir les enfants se baignaient encore dans la fontaine.

So hot that kids were still bathing in the fountain at ten in the evening.

This was my 'station' for the three days of the exhibition.

Münster c'est le royaume du vélo, alors le mercredi j'ai loué un vélo pour aller à l'exposition et après faire un petit tour.

Münster is a cyclist's heaven (and thus a bit scary for pedestrians). On the Wednesday I decided to do the local thing and hired a bike from the hotel).

Le dernier jour à six heures du soir, toutes les machines klaxonnent pour marquer la fin.

On the last day, at six in the evening, all the machines honk their horns.

Leonardo

Le dernier-né des cousins c'est Leonardo.

The latest cousin is Leonardo.

Il est vraiment trop chou.

As cute as anything.

Surtout qu'il s'est endormi sur moi!

I'm not biased or anything, obviously.

Tuscany ... Toscane

Après Venise, on a passé le weekend en Toscane avec la famille.

After Venice, a weekend in Tuscany with family.

We had lunch in a very nice 'agriturismo' with a view across the rolling hills.
