Puisqu'on avait un tas de binz dans la voiture, j'ai décidé de loger dans un hôtel à Marghera (avec parking), où on pouvait prendre un bus rapidement pour aller à Venise.
Ahhh Venice!Don't try to drive there on a long bank holiday weekend at the same time as everyone else. Otherwise your 6-hour journey turns into a 9-hour journey.
Because we had a car-full of junk (as you can see), we opted to stay in a hotel in Marghera, which is just a bus-ride away from La Serenissima.
Vous avez déjà vu mille fois les photos des endroits célebres. Ce que j'ai trouvé fascinant c'était le contraste entre les coins très touristiques et bourrés de fric, puis les endroits pleins d'histoire mais dilapidés mais habités. You've already seen all the photos of the famous bits. What I found fascinating is the combination of ramshackle, lived-in history in the backwaters, compared to the mega-money in the few famous bits.
En parlant de fric: on a fait l'erreur de marcher depuis Piazzale Roma jusqu'à San Marco, puis Rebecca avait tellement faim qu'on a dû choisir le premier restau qui venait. Où j'ai eu droit à cette assiette de ... pâtes ... pour 20 euros (avec le verre de rouge pourri).Le lendemain on a fait gaffe de demander à quelqu'un du coin ou eux allait manger. Et c'était beaucoup beaucoup mieux (pour le même prix!). Toujours des prix suisses par contre.
Talking about mega-money, we made the mistake for walking all the way from Piazzale Roma all the way to San Marco, at which point Rebecca was so hungry we just went into the first restaurant. Where I was served this plate of pasta for something like 20 euros (glass of naff wine included).The next day we did better: asked a local where they go to eat. Same price, but far far better food. Foreigners would be forgiven for coming here and going away wondering what all the fuss about Italian food is!
